Musical Chairs

Have you ever had an amazing idea and then what feels like only seconds later, someone else does what you were thinking?
It honestly feels like someone just came up behind you and snatched what you were just holding before you could even start it?

This was me every day for a week.

No joke I had 3 different ideas that I journaled about doing and the next day either someone told me that they had just started doing it or someone was posting about it.

Here’s the thing, when we are given a dream or an idea, the enemy is going to attack it and most of the time it’s with comparison (can I get an amen)? BUT, this time it was a different feeling.

I wasn’t comparing myself to the people doing it – I just felt discouraged that they got there before me.

It started to feel like I was just too slow, or that everyone else was so much faster than me. I felt like no matter what I did they would always arrive before me…so why even try?

So, at the end of this very discouraging week, as I was driving home from work and talking to God about all of it, He so clearly said:

“Brooke!
No one is going to beat you there.
No one is going to “outrun” you to what I have placed on you and tasked you to do.
No one is going to beat you there because no one can.”

I instantly realized that what God has designed for me cannot be reached by someone faster than me because it’s not even their race.

There is a table set and a chair with my name on it.

No one can run up and sit there before me.

This isn’t spiritual musical chairs.

God isn’t some DJ pressing play and pause on music waiting for us to miss our shot at a chair then removing them until just one of us has been “victorious”.

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?

Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training.

“They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore, I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
—1 Corinthians 9:24-27

What I read here is that everyone has the opportunity to win their race.

To wear the victors crown.

There is an option to “not win the crown” or “not be victorious” but it doesn’t exist because someone can beat you. It exists because YOU can beat you.

You can decide to stop running.
You can turn around.
You can take detours.
You can even choose to not run at all.

Please hear what I am trying to communicate:
I don’t say this to put pressure on you or discourage you.
I want you to know that NO ONE can take what is on your life and get there before you.

No one can “become you” faster or “discover your calling and steal it” faster.

Your race cannot be won by someone else.

I want you to say this out loud and fill in your name:

>YOUR NAME<,
No one is going to beat you there.
No one is going to outrun you to what I have placed on you.
No one is going to beat you there because no one can.”
– God

Please know that God believes in and cares about your dreams.

And remember that when the music stops playing, we will ALL be sitting at the table with no one standing looking for a seat.
